Netflix is giving an entire country 2 days of unlimited streaming as a part of a promotional strategy. For now, the country has chosen India as the favorable country for this promotion. Netflix plans to allow everyone in the nation to view all content on Netflix free of cost starting December 4, for 48 hours.
Netflix recently terminated the free trial period they used to provide in the country and is looking into other ways of promotion. Netflix’s chief operating officer Greg Peters revealed the promo on the company’s third quarter earnings call. He referred to it as a “StreamFest”. He further confirmed that the promo offer is only available in India for now.
“An idea we’re excited about — and we’ll see how it goes, we think that giving everyone in a country access to Netflix for free for a weekend could be a great way to expose a bunch of new people to the amazing stories that we have,” Netflix COO Greg Peters said in an interview after the company’s Q3 2020 results. He further added, “”Really creating an event, and hopefully get a bunch of those folks to sign up”.
When questioned about the increasing prices of the Netflix plans, Greg Peters said, “We do an assessment: Do we believe that we’re really delivering more value to members?” he said, adding that “a North Star we hold close to our heart in this whole process is we think that we are just incredible entertainment value — and we very much want to remain an incredible value as we continue to improve the service and grow.”
We can’t wait for December 4th and see how the new promotional strategy works out for the multibillion-dollar company in a diverse country like India.
