Apple Designs Custom Face Masks For Corporate And Retail Employees

Apple will be providing its corporate and retail employees with custom made face masks called “Apple Face Masks”, Bloomberg has reported. Apple has both designed and manufactured the face masks, which is a three-layered face mask and Apple has also sourced the only transparent FDA approved face masks from a third party.

The transparent face masks are for people who are deaf or hard of hearing so that they can read an employee’s lips to understand what they’re saying. Apple had designed face shields in April to be shipped to areas in need.

This new face mask design seems to be even more sophisticated. Apple has sourced all materials carefully so as to not cause a shortage of materials required for PPE(Personal Protective Equipment) kits’ production. The masks have been entirely designed and manufactured by Apple’s internal teams, and they will be replacing the standard cloth-made surgical masks most Apple employees wear.

A picture of the mask was first shared by MacRumors.

The Bloomberg report states that:

The Apple Face Mask is made up of three layers to filter incoming and outgoing particles. It can be washed and reused as many as five times, the company told employees. In typical Apple style, the mask looks unique with large coverings on the top and bottom for the wearer’s nose and chin. It also has adjustable strings to fit around a person’s ears.

It is still not clear if Apple will be manufacturing these masks for sale outside of Apple. The company has already donated tens of millions of N95 masks to healthcare institutions around the world, and they offer masks to all customers entering their stores. They have already accommodated their Face ID feature to react to the user wearing a face mask. The PIN shows up much faster if the face isn’t recognized in all iOS since iOS 13.5.
