Google Works on Built-In Snore and Cough Detection for Android

In 2022, tech giant Google rolled out a new update to the Google Fit app which essentially turned the Pixel smartphones into the mobile heart and respiratory monitors. This feature makes use of a user’s phone’s cameras, microphone, and accelerometer to measure their heart rate and respiratory rate. According to a new report, Google is now working on two new features for Android smartphones that can provide more insight into their users’ sleep quality.

Google Fit for iOS has recently been said to sport interesting updates. Reportedly, Google Fit is now able to track and measure the heart rate of users using an iPhone camera. Users are asked to place their finger upon the rear camera lens and apply mild pressure in order to get their heart rate. Apparently, even an active internet connection is necessary to be able to make this feature work. These heart and the respiratory tracker features were first rolled out to the Pixel phones.

Google Introduces Heart and Respiratory Rate Tracker for Pixel 6 And Pixel 6 Pro

Google plans to introduce heart rate as well as respiratory rate trackers for Google Pixel 6 and Google Pixel 6 Pro, according to reports. The feature may be availed via the Google Fit app, and will require access to the rear as well as front cameras of the phones in order to function. This is not a new feature and was available in older models such as Google Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a. However, this feature had been discontinued in the latest models released by the company. The health tracking features were rolled out within weeks of Google launching the devices.
