Google Fi Introduces End-to-End Encryption
With their announcement introducing end-to-end encryption for calls made on Google Fi, Google reaffirms their commitment towards ensuring user privacy. While this feature is only available on Android, with the caveat of both parties on the call being users of Google Fi, this is a promising change.
End-to-end encryption ensures that only the people on the call itself will be able to participate in the call, and no third party will be able to listen in on the call. While this does improve privacy protection for users of Google Fi on smartphones powered by Android, this feature is not yet available on iPhone. iPhone users may still continue to use Google Fi, but without the new encryption feature available for them.
