Apple Is Not Accepting Apps That Pay Tribute to Steve Jobs

Apple won’t be accepting any Apps that will pay tribute to Steve Jobs in any way or form. According to Apple, “these types of Apps” won’t be allowed to exist in Apple’s dynamic App Store. One calendar App was recently rejected and Apple sent out an email to the developer of this application informing about the rejection and also mentioning that tribute to Steve can be paid in other ways.

As the developer now points out, they will be releasing their Apps on the Cydia store.

Ron Johnson Leaves Apple for CEO Position at J.C Penny

Apple’s retail mastermind Ron Johnson has left the company for a role at J.C Penny as CEO. Apple has not yet announced his successor, but it is a major loss for Apple, and along with Steve, Ron helped develop the retail strategy of Apple which is now the key to Apple’s success.

Ron was the man behind the famous Genius Bar concept, and now Apple has also removed his bio from their website. He was refered to as the “Steve Jobs of the retail industry” to J.C Penny. Apple served its one billionth user in Apple Store this past July.

Android Phones Get Movie Rentals

Google Videos App which allowed Android users to rent movies was only compatible with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) till today, but Google has updated the App recently for Android that allows even Froyo (Android 2.2) users to take advantage of the movie rentals feature. Once you get the Google Movies App from the Android market, you can rent movies directly from your Android device, and the App will also display all the movies already present on your device.

The App has been designed to work with the newest and updated version of Google Market. As soon as you hit the “Market” icon on the screen within the App, it takes you to the “Movie Rentals” section of the market assuming you already have the latest version. Movie rentals are available for 30 days, but once you start playing the movie, you have only 24 hours to complete it.

Movies can also be streamed over Wi-Fi. You can get the App from here.

Lion to Hit UK Mac App Store At 1 AM Today

According to a latest report from “Speak Apple” blog citing “close Apple source”, Apple will release its next generation operating system for Mac at 1 AM in the UK App Store. The blog mentions that the latest iTunes Connect maintenance was done to prepare for the huge launch of Lion.

Apple has already released a beta version of iOS 5 which will also be released sometime this month. iCloud, Apple’s cloud storage system will also make its debut this month. Exciting month, huh?

Twitter Totally Integrated With iOS 5

Twitter has been completely integrated with iOS 5. With iOS 5, Twitter users can sign in once, and use the service from almost all Apps to tweet instantly.

With Twitter integration, you can tweet from right within Safari, Photos, Camera, YouTube, or Maps. You can use any App, and even add the location to your Tweet. With total integration, you will be instantly notified about any mentions, messages, and more in your notifications center.

If you want to reply or mention someone in your tweet, start with the @ sign, and iOS will automatically help you. Maybe even developers can implement this feature in their Apps.

All New iOS Notifications System Unveiled

As predicted, Apple has completely revamped the way it notifies a user about activity related to different accounts in iOS. The iOS notifications system has completely been revamped, and it now aggregates all notifications under one area dubbed “Notification Center”.

Notification Center features all your notifications in one single place giving you quick access to different Apps. Simply swipe down, and a huge list of notifications would pop up (just like Android). Different notifications will be categorized under different sections, and you can instantly tap on any one to open the associated App. You can even swipe down on the lock to screen to bring down all notifications.

If you’ve got a whole conversation in the messaging App, simply swipe across and the complete conversation will be listed. Totally amazing. Notification Center will be a part of iOS 5. It looks amazing on the iPad.

Flipboard Blocked in China

According to a tweet from Mike McCue, CEO of Flipboard, China has blocked user access to Flipboard. Flipboard is a popular App that converts your social feeds into a magazine like format, and makes consuming content from different sites much more intimate.

“I can now confirm Flipboard itself is being blocked. All services (not just Facebook and Twitter) no longer work. [Users] used to be able to login to Facebook and Twitter using VPN. Now with our servers blocked, even if you had successfully logged in, we can’t show data. Also, users who had setup Flipboard from outside china used to be able to use Facebook and Twitter when within china. That is no longer the case.”, said Mike McCue to Techcrunch.

Chinese iPhones and iPads Won’t Include YouTube

This is interesting. As discovered by Chinese blog M.I.C Gadget, it appears that Chinese iPhones and iPads will not include the YouTube App which is pre-loaded into all iOS devices in other countries. Chinese video site Youku is set to replace YouTube on Chinese iOS devices.

According to reports from TechNode, it also appears that Steve Jobs has talked to the CEO of Youku to discuss the possibility of having Youku on Chinese devices instead of YouTube. A close look at the photo of the white iPhone 4 on Apple’s China website reveals that the YouTube icon is missing from the device.

Google Tripped into $1 Billion With Its Mobile Business

Today, during Google’s Earnings Call, an analyst asked for more details about how Google was fairing up in the mobile business. Patrick Pichette, CFO of Google did not reveal any secrets but said, “Without any radical effort, we already announced at end of Q3 this is a $1 billion run-rate business.” The mobile business is growing at an “amazing blazingly pace” and Google tripped into $1 billion.”

Google is currently activating 350,000 devices every day, and the default search engine on Android as well as iOS is Google. By the mobile business, Google not only means Android, but also the growth in mobile search. Another fact to be noticed is that Google does not earn much with Android as it is *cough* open-source. Bing is catching up with Google, but it is clear that Google will grab a billion or two with its mobile business.
