Amazon previews Kindle app for iPad

Amazon has a special preview page where it displays information about the Kindle app for Tablets including the iPad. The looks are pretty much similar to iBooks which is on the iPad.

This obviously means that Amazon would lose Kindle sales and is driving more and more people towards the iPad. iPad already has the iBooks Store which includes books from the major five publishers in the world and along with the Amazon Store which nearly has all books, it would take a lot of innovation to beat the iPad.

It uses WhisperSync to automatically synchronizes your last page read, bookmarks, notes and highlights with Kindle and Kindle-compatible devices PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad and BlackBerry. It almost has all the features of the iBooks app including adjustable screen brightness and Page turn animation replicates the look of turning a page in a book. Apple Safari updated to 4.0.5

Apple on 11th March released a patch for Safari. Sixteen fixes were present in total out of which six affected only Windows whereas the rest affected both Mac as well as Windows . Apple cites this update as “highly recommended” . The fixes improve performance, increase stability and enhance security.All security updates are basically remote code execution or application termination.

The following were fixed/updated :-

  • Performance improvements for Top Sites

  • Stability improvements for 3rd-party plug-ins Stability improvements for websites with online forms and

  • Scalable Vector Graphics

  • Fixes an issue that prevented Safari from changing settings on some Linksys routers

20 zero day security holes in Mac OS X [Security]

Charlie Miller a security expert is about to disclose potentially record breaking 20 zero day security holes in Apple’s Mac OS X. According to a source, the 20 zero day holes contained in closed source Apple products, said Miller.”OS X has a large attack surface consisting of open source components (i.e. webkit, libz, etc), closed source 3rd party components (Flash), and closed source Apple components (Preview, mdnsresponder, etc). Bugs in any of these types of components can lead to remote compromise”

According to Apple, Mac is quite safe and has no viruses. Apple still continues to bag a lot of Mac users for this very reason. The latest loopholes are a threat to the internal architecture of Mac OS. “They sell lots of computers and nobody doesn’t buy Apple computers because of a perceived lack of security. So in their minds, they don’t have a security problem until it affects their bottom line, which hasn’t been the case, yet”, said the expert.

Kindle for Mac Out Now

Amazon has released a Mac version of their Kindle software. The file is 22MB in size and does exactly what it is supposed to do. If you do not own a kindle, you could read books purchased from the Amazon Store on your Mac. But if you happen to be an owner, you could sync your last left page with your Kindle using WhisperSync.

You could even browse the Amazon Store and purchase new books directly from your Mac. The application is for Intel-based machines only, OS X 10.5 and above. This would only survive for a few days as iBooks would appear, and would be the default book reading app for Mac.

Flash or HTML 5 – iPad

During the iPad demonstration, Steve.P.Jobs visited a few sites where blank squares appeared where video or animated content would normally be displayed. This square indicated a missing plugin. The plugin was Adobe’s Flash. The iPad would not display videos, animations or any other content created using Adobe’s Flash.

Apple believes that having Flash on the iPhone would make the device slow and buggy. Many new sites have been experimenting with a new video format called HTML 5. HTML 5 is the next level of HTML which is capable of handling video and animation, just as Flash does. HTML 5 works directly in a web browser. It would enhance iPad and iPhone users experience by playing web-based video content.
The HTML5 editors are Ian Hickson of Google, Inc. and David Hyatt of Apple, Inc .

But migrating to a new video format would be tough and troublesome. Flash has a lot of advantages and is the standard multimedia language for a vast majority of developers. Flash’s UI is definitely better and involves less manual coding than HTML 5.

After the development of HTML 5 , iPhone and iPad users would hopefully see fewer blue blank squares on their screen.

On January 27th Apple is going to release a new product which will most probably change the way people have been interacting with their Computers and Mobile Phones. The release of the iSlate or iPad will mark the beginning of a whole new era of computing!

The iSlate is to be announced during an event to be held at San Francisco.

The iSlate is rumored to have great innovative features such as Huge Screen with IPS technology, iWork compatibility and more. Another feature should be that ,the iSlate must be completely Voice enabled with support for Speech recognition. If iWork is to be accustomed with the iSlate, then Speech recognition will help a lot of business users. Two microphones should be built in which would enhance the use of Skype and other such services. Just by speaking the name of an application, the iSlate must be compatible enough to pop it up.

Microsoft’s Project Natal has been designed to recognize words such as “Good Night” which would just switch it off.
The Apple Tablet must also be compatible with similar technologies.

Voice Input must work with any application which has text input available, just as the Nexus One. Music Search, Hands free Dialing, Posting Tweets by your voice,News,Sports and Weather and Battery Remaining could be great!
