Google TV To Include Live TV Channels

Google is all set to bring free TV channels to Google TV, the Android-based smart TV platform. Google TV runs on Chromecast and some specific smart TVs from different brands including Sony and TCL. Disney+ Hotstar, Netflix, and other streaming apps support Google TV. Now it has come up that Google TV might reach a higher level by adding some free channels to its service. If reports are to be believed then Google is talking to companies who will provide free and ad-supporting streaming television channels.

As per a report from Protocol, industry sources have revealed that free streaming channels could be launched on Google TV. They might come this fall or with their smart TV partners in 2022. This will allow Chromecast users to go through different live TV channels. The present Live TV menu on Google TV gives only paid TV services like the paid YouTube TV subscription service. The free TV channels will be provided with these subscribed live channels.

It has also come up from the report that these TV channels will be having the entire look and feel of traditional TV networks. These will even include ad-breaks and on-screen graphics and this will further complete the look. Samsung offers something similar in its TV Plus service each month for its smart TVs.

Google TVs competitors like Roku and Amazon have already included this and thus it’s time for Google to pick itself up in the race. Google TV was launched last year in September 2020 as a new interface based on Android TV.
