Google is planning to launch its Pixel 5 smartphone, a new Chromecast, and a new smart speaker at a special event scheduled for September 30th. The company has started inviting members of the media to the said event, promising the launch of new hardware. The invite says, “We invite you to learn all about our new Chromecast, our latest smart speaker, and our new Pixel phones.”
Google had already promised to launch a Pixel 5 to its users later this year, fully equipped with 5G connectivity. Along with that, Google also introduced the Pixel 4A last month. Moreover, 5G versions of both the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4A were promised to be released in the US, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, Japan, Taiwan, and Australia.
It feels like Christmas already as a new Chromecast and an update to Google’s smart speakers are on their way as well. It is likely to be the Nest smart speaker that Google confirmed in July. The leaked image of the speaker looked like something between the Nest Mini and the larger Google Home Max. The only observable difference was its ability to stand vertically.
Last month, two new Google hardware devices were also spotted at the FCC. Google is also rumored to be working on a TV dongle codenamed “Sabrina” that would use Android TV and a traditional remote-driven UI. Since Google’s invite particularly mentions Chromecast, it can’t be said for sure whether these two devices will appear in the event.
Google’s event will take place virtually on September 30th at 2 PM ET / 11 AM PT.
