In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, everything is moving online including the graduation ceremony of the batch of 2020. Google CEO Sundar Pichai tended to the graduating class of 2020 by means of a virtual occasion sorted out by Google’s YouTube platform to bid farewell to these students. Apart from Pichai, the ceremony was blessed with the presence of former US President, Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama, the youth heartthrob Korean Band BTS, Malala Yousafzai, Lady Gaga and Beyonce amongst many others.
In his address to the batch of 2020, Pichai said that they will triumph and emerge victorious out of this situation. Furthermore, in his reasoning to back his statement, he added that many years back, the class of 1920 graduated in the mouth of a pandemic, the class of 1970 graduated amidst the Vietnam war and almost 20 years ago, the class of 2001 graduated just a few months before the 9/11 incident. They overcame these challenges, they prevailed, and so will you.
Pichai also added to his address to the batch of 2020 that he understands that none of the students were prepared for something like this and when it is time for celebrating their graduation, the students are mourning over all that they lost during this time. He also adds, that keeping up hope in such times is tough. But as a perfect motivator, Pichai says that be open, be impatient and be hopeful.
In his statement, Pichai adds that there are probably things about technology that frustrate this generation and make them impatient. It will create the next technology revolution and enable them to build things his generation could have never even thought of. He asks the students to be impatient as it will create the progress the world needs.
