As per the latest reports, Apple has taken down Pocket Cast, which is one of the most popular podcast apps for iOS from the Chinese App Store. On the request of the local government, the application has been taken down from the Chinese App Store. In an official word from Pocket Cast, it has been reported that Apple had informed Pocket Cast two days prior to its removal from the Chinese App Store. The organization has affirmed that the solicitation was made by the Cyberspace Administration of China, which is the final decider of what content can be accessed in the country.
As the Pocket Casts group calls attention to this is obviously oversight to keep the Chinese from getting to the news, they won’t react to demands from the Chinese government to bring down podcasts. Shockingly, Pocket Casts application will not make its return to the App Store any time soon.
History has it, this is not the first time that the tech giant has pulled down an application from the App Store on the request of the Chinese Government. Quartz News App was the victim of this activity last year as the website had been covering the Hong Kong protests in detail. After its termination, both the application and its website are not available to users in the country.
