Alexa has been gaining plenty of new features in the past few months and the company has now added a new feature called “Song ID” that gives the listeners information about the next song in the playlist or a radio station. Even if the users find which song will play next from the Alexa App in their smartphones, they will get real-time update directly from Alexa if the feature is tuned on.
The new update will automatically include the “Song ID” feature in your Alexa device and you can turn it on instantly with your voice. This can be done by saying “Alexa, turn on Song ID” and if you wish to disable the feature, you can say ” Alexa, turn of Song ID.” It is a basic addition by Amazon, but it will help users discover more genres of music apart from what they listen to usually as Alexa will also suggest random tracks based on the listening history.
When listening to music through mobile or desktop apps, it’s easy to give a quick glance at your streaming app to note an artist’s name or song’s title. But when you’re streaming music over a smart speaker, your device may be put away and not as easily accessible. And unlike on terrestrial radio, there’s no DJ to announce what’s coming up next as the music streams over an Amazon Echo.
Amazon says it was inspired to build the feature based on users’ requests to Alexa about music. Every day, customers were asking the assistant “hundreds of thousands” of questions about the music that was playing, like “Alexa, what song is this?,” “Alexa, who sings this song?” and more.
