DM’s Will Be Available Soon On Instagram Web

If you are an Instagram user, you already know that sending messages is not possible on the desktop web version of the App via your laptop or computer. The App on your phone is the only way to send direct messages (DM) to your friends. But all of this could change soon as Instagram has started testing the messaging feature on the Web and it could be available to all users this year.

The web version Instagram has been pretty limited so far in terms of use where the users can only scroll through the feeds and like or comment on any post. Also, they cannot post Stories directly from the desktop version unless they do it from their phone. So for a start, the addition of direct messaging will definitely boost the presence of Instagram Web and more number of users will likely use the feature if they are away from their phones and much closer to their computer.

Jane Manchun Wong, a well know app researcher, originally came across the tests being run by the company for the DM feature. She shared a post on Twitter along with an image displaying the DM feature on the Web and said: “Instagram’s Direct on Web will also be available on desktop.”

Techcrunch explains how Jane managed to get the information:

It’s not available to users yet, as it’s still being internally “dogfooded” — used heavily by employees to identify bugs or necessary product changes. But she was able to dig past security and access the feature from both a desktop computer and mobile web browser.
