The only market where Apple has yet to make an impression is the headphones business where companies like Bose, Sony and Sennheiser are dominating since several years. The California tech giant is already working on the over-ear headphones and reports suggest that it will be likely launched in the second half of this year. Apple already owns Beats, which it took over back in 2014, thus giving the company an edge to be coming with it’s own set of wearable technology.
There were rumours last year about the launch of Apple’s headphones by the end of 2018, which unfortunately didn’t happen and there were no updates on the delay later on. A very well know research analyst by the name of Ming-Chi Kuo was actually the first person to predict about these headphones in February 2018, where he said:
Apple will soon release a branded high-end, over-ear headphone with an ‘all-new’ design to add to its growing audio accessory lineup, which will release by the end of the year.
Kuo had also mentioned that Apple is looking to upgrade the AirPods soon and include better internal hardware and Siri integration (which actually turned out to be true and has been confirmed by Apple). The same could go into the planning and development of the over-ear headphones as the voice assistant has now become an important part of everyday tasks for all iPhone and iPad users. Kuo said that the headphones will have better audio quality than the AirPods and will also be convenient in use.
