The Autoplay video option has been available on the Youtube Premium Apps for a while now and YouTube claims that it has been getting good response for the feature. Now, the company is extending this feature to the free Apps as well which aims to bring more user engagement on the App. The Autoplay on Home feature will start rolling out on YouTube’s iOS and Android Apps and users can see the videos playing automatically on the home screen.
The video will be played with sounds muted and with the captions turned on, according to the reports online. So when a users opens the App casually to view any video, he/she will see the subscribed videos playing automatically at the top of the home page. This feature has been readily available on YouTube Premium since the last 6 months and it will help the users of free YouTube App to decide which video they want to engage with for a longer time and skip the rest.
A YouTube representative spoke about this feature in a forum announcement:
We’ve heard from many of you that you’d like easier ways to preview videos and watch YouTube on-the-go. Over the next few weeks, we’re rolling out a new YouTube app feature called “Autoplay on Home,” which helps you preview videos and watch YouTube on-the-go without audio. This feature has been available for over half a year for YouTube Premium members on Android, and we’ve seen great results. Previewing videos helps you make more informed decisions about whether you want to watch a video, leading to longer engagement with videos you choose to watch!
