Apple has gone ahead and removed the clause of ‘not allowing in-app purchases on the App Store to be gifted to others’ with the new update and the users will soon be able to gift the in-app purchases. Although the holiday season is almost here, the update won’t be available right now and majority of the iOS users will have to wait for a few more weeks.
App Store always had the functionality of gifting Apps to your near and dear ones, but there was never a way for the users to send the in-app items and features as a gift to their friends or family members. The update is good news for many folks as it can be very handy during the festive seasons and help App developers to boost their sales with new and old Apps.
The changes for this new update can be seen in the App Store guidelines which now reads as:
Apps may enable gifting of items that are eligible for in-app purchase to others. Such gifts may only be refunded to the original purchaser and may not be exchanged.
And before it read as:
Apps should not directly or indirectly enable gifting of in-app purchase content, features, or consumable items to others.
Apple is trying its best to help developers monetise with in-app purchases and also subscriptions with these new updates. This is because if you consider the category of ‘Games’,there are several gamers who would love to have virtual goods and other in-app currency as gifts which will eventually help developers to be more successful.
