A recent report by an analyst confirms that Google and Amazon are working on their own versions of the wireless earphones similar to Apple’s AirPods. This could be a warning sign for Apple for things to come and they definitely need to jump up the desirability of AirPods before the competing wireless earphones are launched. The AirPods surely look classy and elegant and to outdo them, the rival companies will have to come with something even better.
The AirPods have gained good popularity in the past year or so with many Apple users opting for it rather than the standard wired earphones. But for people who feel that the AirPods are too expensive, there is good news for them as tech giants like Google and Amazon could be working on one if the comments of TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is to be believed.
In a note, Ming-Chi Kuo said:
The new ear-device competition to break out soon: Google and Amazon to be Apple’s main competitors in the AirPod-alike market; Goertek and Unitech to be the sole suppliers for Google and Amazon’s AirPod-alike products.
We believe that AirPods’ success has drawn Google and Amazon’s attention and these two companies will launch AirPod-alike products in 2H19. The combined shipments of two brands will likely reach 10–20mn units in 2H19. Goertek (assembly) and Unitech (Rigid-flex PCB) are sole suppliers for Google and Amazon.
We think that Google and Amazon are Apple’s main competitors because Google is the most influential brand in the Android ecosystem and Amazon has the best voice assistant service.
