Instagram users woke up to a completely different layout on the App today as they could not use the traditional vertical scroll for glancing through each post. It was highly unusual for the users to gel along with horizontal feeds and most of them freaked out on what happened and whether this sudden change was a bug. Several other users took to Twitter to express their concern and awaited for the response from the company.
The feature is being rolled out by Instagram gradually to its users and those who already have the feature are not pretty happy with the horizontal scrolling. However, the feature is said to be a “test” bug as reported by the company. This comes as a response to all the confusion and chaos caused on the social media by the users where the Instagram Head Adam Mosseri clarified:
The horizontal feed was meant to be “a small test” that “went broader than we anticipated”. Due to a bug, some users saw a change to the way their feed appears today. We quickly fixed the issue and feed is back to normal. We apologize for any confusion.
After the bug fix, the Instagram feeds have gone back to the usual vertical scrolling instead of being horizontal. This came as a relief for many users while some of them still have to wait until the the fix comes into effect automatically. Still, this test feature shows how the future of Instagram may look with only a single post per page and needing to swipe the page to the right for the next post. Yet, judging the people’s reaction, the feature definitely doesn’t seem like a good idea to implement in the future.
