Amazon took to a blog post on their website stating that the company has broken all sales record this holiday season and saw millions of products being ordered compared to all the seasons before. The best selling devices included Fire TV and Amazon Echo which were purchased in millions on Black Friday. Apart from these, there were other items that were sold in huge numbers which broke all previous records for the company.
The record also saw around 100 millions of new people signing up on Amazon Prime, on both paid and trial basis. This was never seen before and it has delighted the company to have this sort of massive jump in the subscriptions that includes Amazon Prime Video, Amazon Music and the fast delivery option while purchasing items.
Amazon Smart Plug, Ring Video Doorbell 2, TP-Link Kasa Smart Plug Mini Outlet and the iRobot Roomba 690 were also the best selling devices adding to the overall sales. The discounts on the Echo Dot also helped the cause with large number of shoppers pouring in on the e-commerce website.
Techcrunch noted how Echo Dot became the top selling product on Amazon:
Over Black Friday weekend this year, for example, Amazon’s Echo Dot became the No. 1 selling product across Amazon from any manufacturer, not just Amazon’s own best-selling device. That speaks to Amazon’s ability to leverage its retail site to push its own hardware — a potential competitive advantage as the smart speaker markets heats up between companies like Google, Apple and Chinese manufacturers like Alibaba and Xiaomi.
