YouTube Is Adding Free Movies To Its Website

YouTube had started adding some of the best movies for free since October and you can watch it right on the site. The videos can be watched by anyone, but comes with ads. The company says that that ad-free videos will be available on YouTube Premium for those who are willing to pay for the service.

YouTube’s move to add free movies was first reported by AdAge, who mentioned that the popular video platform had started adding around 100-ad supported movies quietly which began last month. Some of the movie titles include: ‘Rocky’, ‘The Terminator’ as well as other family flicks like ‘Zookeeper’, ‘Agent Cody Banks’ and ‘Legally Blonde’ and a few others.

YouTube was earlier offering the movies and shows to its customers for a fixed amount, just like the rental services offered by Apple’s iTunes or Amazon Video. Now, things are changing and YouTube is offering free movies with ads and the company is aiming to bring in profits by signing partnerships with advertisers for sponsorships.

The main advantage of YouTube is that it has a user base of 1.9 billion monthly active users and it can make more money by targeting better ads on the site. Most of the YouTube watching users play the content on their smart tv and so the company will be looking to target this audience and gather more revenue. The idea of ad-supported movies has also been taken by Walmart and Roku in the past, while Amazon has also been reported to be working on the same lines.
