Google has started making it’s AI controlled assistant service called ‘Duplex‘ available to a small number of users who are using Pixel smartphones. The service is basically an intelligent digital assistant that will help you book tickets or make reservations for a hotel without you having to browse the web or make calls manually. Duplex was announced by Google earlier this year at the Google I/O Conference and the company has been testing it out since a while now.
We had previously had a look at Google Duplex in a few videos that showed the Google Assistant helping the person make a reservation at a hotel. This was done by the service asking the users for the date and timings for the reservation and eventually making the calls to book the table all by itself. This surely sounds very futuristic but it has started landing on Pixel phones already and the lucky owners will be able to check it out in the coming days.
Speaking about the Google Duplex service to VentureBeat, a Google spokesperson said:
We’re currently ramping up the ability to book restaurant reservations through the Google Assistant over the phone using Duplex technology. To help deliver a good experience to Pixel users and to businesses, we’re starting with a slow rollout … and will expand to more Pixel users as we continue to ramp up.
Duplex is currently available only in English language and supports hotel reservation in only limited cities as of now including New York, Atlanta, Phoenix, and San Francisco.
