OnePlus has confirmed that its next flagship phone OnePlus 6T will feature the in-display fingerprint sensor. OnePlus spoke to CNET about this new addition to the most popular Android smartphone in the market and said:
We unlock our phones multiple times a day, and Screen Unlock reduces the number of steps to complete the action. By adding this feature as an addition to other display unlocking options such as Face Unlock, users will have options to unlock the display in a way that is most efficient for them.
OnePlus 6T won’t be the first phone to have the in-display fingerprint sensor as there are other Android smartphones in the market that already have this feature. Initially, OnePlus had plans to launch this feature with the OnePlus 5T phone but the technology was still not mature enough as per the company standards.
OnePlus has completely changed the hardware in the phone to include this technology which is why the OnePlus 6T will be 0.45mm thicker compared to OnePlus 6. A new addition or a new technology on the phone always comes at a cost and be it any smartphone company, the planning and execution for the end product is really important.
We can see how the fingerprint sensor will look on the display of the OnePlus 6T, from the screenshot that was provided by OnePlus. There was a recent leak spotted on SlashLeaks that showed the images from the packaging of the OnePlus 6T. These images revealed the ‘waterdrop’ notch in addition to the in-display fingerprint.
