Apple has appointed former Google’s head of search and AI John Giannandrea as it’s new AI Chief. John will be incharge of of Apple’s machine learning division, its Siri team, and the Core ML team.
Apple is looking to push its AI efforts in the right direction with Giannandrea’s experience of Machine Intelligence and Research. Currently, Apple lags behind in key AI areas like natural language processing and computer vision. So, research in these areas is essential to power voice assistant features within Siri and object recognition in augmented reality Apps.
