Snapchat wants to grant access of it’s login system and its augmented reality camera features to other Apps in a much likely new developer platform. Since all these years, Snapchat has been a completely closed platform where it has guarded the app’s user base from data-hungry app developers looking to hawk products and services to its coveted teen demographic.
TechCrunch has reported that Snap is reconsidering the approach and may imminently launch a platform to be called SnapKit. It will be an AR Kit, one which will be widely available to all the developers out of Snapchat. For the teens who are worried about their privacy online, this will be useful for them with Snap’s new login system, which would let users authenticate third-party accounts using their Snapchat credentials.
The most important addition to the Snapkit would be the AR camera features. This way Snapchat would bring in more third party developers to use their AR camera kit for quick selfie animations and other camera tricks rather than going through developer toolkits offered by Facebook, Apple, etc.
