Apple has applied for various patents in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, recent one being the virtual reality entertainment systems for autonomous cars. This will basically transform the car’s interior and exterior environments, making the ride more fun for passengers.
Going with the vision of Apple’s VR and self-driving cars, this patent imagines future vehicles using interior displays and VR headsets to show passengers the real-world environment. It could also show predetermined scenes or virtual scenarios rather than simply displaying the world around the vehicle.
The VR experience will gel perfectly with the insides of a tiny car, where the seats would be co-ordinated with the VR motion sensors enabling real-world car movements to be incorporated into the visual experience. The patents says “Passengers may choose to have relaxing visual experiences … such as floating down a river or soaring over the landscape in a hang glider.”
Users inside the car can also opt to have a virtual author read an audiobook, live stream virtual work meetings, or reenact car chase scenes from their favorite films.
This initiative is part of the Apple’s Project Titan, in which Apple will be working on it’s own car and reportedly developing high-tech systems for autonomous vehicles.
