It is really surprising to know that all these years the Youtube App had never reached the top of the App store. The most close one being the number 3 spot and it never crossed that mark. Now, this finally has happened and the top grossing app on the App Store is Youtube.
This climb has been somewhat slow over these years, but what really pushed it to the top is the platform’s YouTube Red video subscription. In fact, a month after YouTube Red launched in 2015, the YouTube client for iOS jumped to number 6 in the top grossing list, generating an estimated $100,000 per day on iPhone and as much as $300,000 a day on iPad, the report said.
This paid service provides users with ad-free videos, music, and exclusive content. YouTube Red is priced at $9.99 per month. Aside from YouTube Red, YouTube’s revenue growth also comes from the YouTube TV service, the return of unlimited mobile data and the push for live streaming from creators.
Talking about the App’s earnings, it grossed approximately $14 million in February of 2018, a 133 percent year-over-year increase from last year. In March, YouTube has already earned $12 million, with iOS revenue up 150 percent year-over-year. YouTube Music, YouTube Gaming, Google Play and rental purchases are not included in this revenue.
