Recently in June, Google had hired Manu Gulati, an expert in chipmaking with 8 years of experience at Apple. And now, Google has hired John Bruno who has been Apple’s key chip designer which clearly shows Google is aiming to design its own chips for Pixel phones and other devices.
John Bruno had led Apple’s silicon competitive analysis group, which was the main body that made sure all the Apple devices are preceding their competition. At the moment, Bruno’s role is unclear and it looks like he may have been brought on to help Google develop better internal hardware for it’s Pixel line.
Currently, Google uses Visual Core imaging chip in Pixel 2 phones which reportedly drives the phone’s high-quality camera. So, Bruno’s role might be to develop more specialized chips and custom processors for Google for future Google devices.
The stock Android experience is the main feature in owning a Pixel phone and if Google is able to deliver better Chips that are energy-efficient and faster than the competition, the consumers will be much willing to purchase them.
