New reports are suggesting that Apple is on its way to design its own Power Management Chips. Basically, this means that Apple will be cutting out its third party chip manufacturer Dialog Semiconductor, who have been their supplier since many years.
This plan come up with Apple’s strategy of cost-cutting and streamlining overall production of it’s devices. They are building their computing chips in-house like designing its own graphics chips and severing ties with its former graphics partner Imagination Technologies back in April. The Power Management Chip shall handle tasks like iPhone charging, battery life management, and energy consumption.
The world’s biggest chipmaker Taiwan Semiconductor have been roped in to manufacture these chips. Apple claims that iPhone users could expect devices capable of delivering better performance on lower power consumption with these chips.
