This is the first step in which Apple Pay and PayPal have decided to cut off their support towards White Nationalist and Nazi Apparels. This act was a result of the recent white nationalist attacks, which took place in Charlottesville, Virginia. We know that Apple has a strong foothold over its customers and have a strong influence over them. The recent attacks, which left one counter-protester dead, left everyone shocked. Hence the drastic step was taken by Apple, in view of not supporting such acts and sites which support and provide hate apparels.
Since many of these websites were said to be in violation of the guidelines laid down by Apple, which stated that, Apple Pay prohibits its use in any way which promotes, “hate, violence, or intolerance based on race, age, gender, gender identity, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation”. The many websites which have been targeted, includes AmericanVikings.com, VinlandClothing.com, etc.
While many of the other Tech Giants have taken a step against such acts, Apple Pay is the new one to to step in. Apple CEO Tim cook says that he have seen terrors of white supremacy and racist violence, before and also that everyone should stand against it. Apple did not made any direct comments with relation to the same, but Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple clearly tweeted about the recent attacks. Maybe that was enough for us to figure out the drastic action.
