Apart from meeting the Indian Prime Minister and President on his visit to India next month, it is speculated that Google’s CEO, Sunder Pichai will also launch the second generation Android One smartphone on this visit. An invite that was sent out to some people has led to these rumours. The invite for the event that will be conducted on 16th of this month reads, “At Google, we believe that technology can change people’s lives for the better. Indians are coming online at an astonishing rate with affordable smartphones. These new users have a completely fresh view on what the Internet has to offer. Please block your date for an event with Google as we outline our vision for these users.”
Pichai had unveiled the very first Android smartphones in India and collaborated with multiple companies to introduce inexpensive yet efficient phones in the Indian market. These handsets, however, didn’t receive much appreciation.
In its attempt to compete with the cheap Chinese smartphones available in the Indian market, Google launched the Android One Lava Pixel V1 smartphone in July 2015. Even though it was available at a reasonable price of Rs 11,350 this too failed to make much of an impact.
Current reports suggest that Google has teamed up again with Lava to create an Android One smartphone which will cost you less than Rs. 4000. Pichai will supposedly launch this device during Google’s event on 16th December.
Android One is Google’s approach to creating affordable phones and make Android technology available even in the lesser developed parts of the world.
