The hard-work put in by the developers of Spare Lens and the faith that they had in the App translated into the App being Apple’s Editors’ choice to be one of the ‘Best New Apps’ on the App Store . Read on to find out about the development process of the App, the developers’ relationship with Apple and their future projects.
How did you conceive the idea for the App?
The idea started out as a photo-editing app. We asked ourselves how we could set it apart from other photo editors. It ended up evolving into a photo and video editor that gives you all the tools you would normally find in a photo editor – adjustments, filters, effects, blurs, overlays, etc. – for video too.
Did you expect it to be so well-received by users?
Yes. We had no doubt that what we were making was an amazing app. It is powerful real-time mobile photo and video editing in an easy, modern, and themable UI.
Can you describe your Eureka moment with the App?
I think one of our first Eureka moments was when we saw the filters and effects working for the first time on videos.
What is your marketing strategy? What marketing techniques do you use to promote your App in this heavily competitive application space?
We actually don’t have much of a marketing strategy, yet! We were counting on being featured in the App Store (which we were!) and the app to sell itself. Going forward, we’re coming up with a more comprehensive marketing strategy involving social media, media outreach, and more.
How long did Apple’s approval process take and how would you describe your relationship with Apple?
Apple’s approval process did not take very long – 4 days, actually. I think they were eager to feature the app. Our relationship with Apple has been great.
Do you have any other projects planned for the future? If so, could you give us a little peek into what they may be?
Sure! We have a series of updates for Spare Lens to turn it into a more powerful photo and video editor. Some of the new features we are working on currently include sound editing, typography, and textures. We also have plans to create a professional photo-only editor.
