Where’s That Setting In iOS 8?

iOS 8It’s been three months since iOS 8 was released and we have all had time to play with the new operating system. While it has brought with it exciting new features, there are some settings which seem to have either disappeared or need additional set-up to work. If you have been unable to find an existing setting or make a new feature work then worry not, TheAppleGoogle is here to help.

iCloud Storage and Backup

In iOS 7 you could backup your phone through the Storage and Backup setting. But in iOS 8, to backup your phone to the iCloud you need to use the Backup option under the list of Apps. Another change in the new OS is to the tariffs and tiers of the cloud backup. You can set up your storage plan and also see how much memory you have available by going to Settings → iCloud → Storage.

Usage Information

“iOS

So you chose to automatically send usage information to developers when setting up your iPhone but now want to stop that. This can be done through Diagnostics & Usage which has moved from the “About” section in iOS 7 to Settings → Privacy (right at the bottom) in iOS 8.

Hey Siri

“iOS

This seems to be the one feature which has caused everyone issues. “Hey Siri” is Apple’s response to “OK Google” but for some reason it is not turned on by default. To switch it on go to Settings → General → Siri and turn on Allow “Hey Siri.” In addition, this feature only works if the phone is plugged into a power source. But in iOS 8 the ability to turn off the “Raise to Speak” option has been removed.

Handoff

“iOS

Turning on Handoff is very easy. Go to Settings → General → Handoff & Suggested Apps. But making it work is not so straight forward. For Handoff to work you must ensure that all your devices are on the same Wi-Fi network, and you must be logged into the same iCloud account on all your devices.

Brightness

“iOS

In iOS 8, Apple has decided to clarify things by removing Brightness from under Wallpaper and Brightness in iOS 7 and moving it under Display and Brightness which makes a lot more sense. You can still adjust it through the Control Centre by swiping up from the bottom on the screen.
