2GB Elpida RAM In iPad Air 2

GeekBar, a third-party Apple Service provider, has shared an image of iPad Air RAM on Chinese site Weibo. The image shows a 2GB Elpida RAM module which was of 1GB in the first-gen iPad Air. Apple had until now limited the RAM of iPad devices to only 1 GB, which was most probably to control the price of the device and preserve the battery life. But with the launch of iOS 8 and soon an iPad Air 2, Apple wants to upgrade to give the best performance on the device.

iPad Air 2 may also have the Split Screen multitasking feature which would allow users to work on two Apps side by side. This would require more memory as two Apps will run in parallel. With Split screen multitasking user can also drag and drop content from one App to another.

iPad Air 2 will be unveiled on October 16 in an event at Apple’s Town Hall. It is also expected that the event will have an introduction to iPad Mini, Retina iMac and OS X Yosemite besides iPad Air 2.
