The desktop version of Google Maps has just been updated with a new and much needed feature, measuring distances. You will now be able to measure distances between two points, or along a route.
To use this, simply select a point on the map and choose ‘check distance’, and then choose the destination location, and it will give you the distance between them. You can also add multiple destinations, turns, and stops to get more detailed distance information.
To allow for finer measurements, you can drag, move, and adjust your measured routes once you’ve placed them.
This feature has been available for a while under the experimental Google Labs, but is now a mainstream feature, and will allow you to measure how long your walking/running/biking/driving routes will be.
