According to IT Home, during a recent shareholder meeting, Terry Gou, Group CEO of Hon Hai, announced his company’s new plans to deploy robots to help assemble devices. Named as Foxbots, these will be first deployed for Apple.
Each Foxbot will be able to assemble an average of 30,000 devices. These robots cost anywhere from $20,000 to $25,000 and Foxconn is ready with 10,000 Foxbots for deployment. Being Apple’s priority partner, Foxconn will use these Foxbots for the assembly of Apple’s iPhones, iPads, and iPods. Foxconn is also the main assembly partner for Apple’s soon to be launched 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 6.
