The camera on the iPhones keep getting better and so do the Apps which make use of it. More and more people now use their phones as their primary camera on holidays. This got us thinking which of these many Apps can be used to make the most of your photos in today’s world of Instagram and social media. So we did our research and picked the Top 5 Photo Editing Apps for iOS. Needless to say, this list is not exhaustive. And, with the arrival of iOS 8 soon and its many features, it may very well need another revision.
With over 10 million downloads Camera+ continues to be one of the favourites with both seasoned and amateur photographers. The App claims to make you love taking photos and achieves this claim with great features like setting exposure separately from focus, a variety of shooting modes and a solid digital zoom. It’s also packed with a great number of filters and effects to beautify your images. The Timer feature makes Camera+ one of the best photo editing Apps for taking high quality selfies.
Photo Editor by Aviary (Free)
Chosen as one of the best Apps for iOS 7 by New York Times, Photo Editor by Aviary is a brilliant App. It mixes the professional with the goofy, giving you everything that you need in a photo editing App. Illuminate, remove blemishes and even whiten teeth in your selfies and make them more attractive. Add fun to your photos by splashing it with stickers or turn it into a meme by adding text. You can also send your photos to the nearest Walgreens for printing.
Once sold for $4.99 and popular even at that price, Snapseed got swiftly acquired by Google and is now free. The fact that Google bought Nik Software, the creators of Snapseed, in itself is an indication of how good a photo editing App it is. Apart from the usual filters, such as brightness, saturation and contrast, Snapseed allows you to fine-tune exposure and colour contrast. You can apply these filters to the entire image or just to a part of it. Snapseed is extremely easy to use and has a fantastic design.
VSCO Cam (Free)
VSCO Cam is a powerful photo editing App with filters to greatly enhance your photos. To give your photos that vintage, retro look you can’t do better than VSCO Cam. In addition to the usual filters, you get the choice of white balance, vignette, temperature and even simulated film grain. Although for most users the free filter pack should be sufficient, you can buy some more with in-App purchase. The App’s integration with VSCO Grid also provides users with a free photo publishing platform.
Adobe Photoshop Touch (iPad: $9.99; iPhone: $4.99)
Most people have used Photoshop on their desktops and are familiar with it, making Photoshop Touch a popular choice among users. Initially the App was available only for iPad, but it has now been released for iPhone as well (although both the versions need to be paid for separately.) Photoshop Touch may not have the most intuitive design, but with its extensive editing features it is one of the most powerful mobile photo editing tool. Enhance and adjust your images with its multiple features, and even sync your photos with your desktop.
