There are already five Apple retail stores in New York, in SoHo, Grand Central, Upper Westside, West 14th Street and, of course, the company’s flagship retail store on Fifth Avenue. It is expected that in 2015 two new Apple retail stores will open in New York. One would be located in the Westfeild World Trade Center mega mall and the other would be on 938 Madison Avenue (Upper East Side).
Although it is projected that the retail stores will open in 2015, it is still unclear when the actual opening dates will be. According to the blog ifo Apple Store, some permits have already been issued to Apple’s long-time architectural firm Bohlin Cywinski Jackson and engineering firm Eckersley O’Callaghan last May 15 for the Upper East Side location. However, there are still permits that are lacking. The status of the permits for the World Trade Center location is still unknown at the time of writing.
Currently there are 424 Apple retail stores worldwide and 254 of them are located in the United States.
