If you are among the unfortunate people who have dropped their Apple device in water, and damaged it, there is good news for you.
Starting yesterday, Apple’s Reuse and Recycling Program entitles you to an Apple store gift card, if you send in an iPhone, iPad, Macbook, or a Mac, that has suffered water damage. The Apple store gift card allows you to spend the money on any other Apple device or accessory.
To confirm if your device has indeed suffered water damage, there is a water contact indicator in the bottom of the headphone jack, that will turn red or pink in case of water contact, rather than the default white or silver. For more details on this, go over to the Apple support page on the topic.
According to CNET, a non water damaged 32 GB Verizon iPhone would get you a $265 gift card, and if it were water damaged, you would get $235. Similarly, a 16 GB iPad 2 would grant you a $126 gift card, whereas for a water damaged one, only $96.
Do note, that this information is assuming that your device still functions, however, if it is dead, it is not worth more than $35 to Apple.
