Scan and Protect is a great new App which allows you to carry all your important documents, safely and securely, on your iPhone. No longer do you need to clutch your briefcase close to your chest or worry about safely storing your bank statements and tax returns. Scan and Protect claims to use the most secure and advanced 256-bit encryption to store and protect your data.
Scan and Protect is very easy to use. Like most Apps dealing with confidential data, it requires you to create a password to enter the App. After that all you need to do is scan documents such as credit cards, passports, bank statements, receipts or work papers using the built-in camera and save them in a folder. You can create as many folders as you want which can be edited or removed. There is also a search functionality which allows you to search for a file by its name. The settings option enables you to set a “Scan Quality” to low, medium or high. The lower the quality the quicker it is to encrypt/decrypt the file. Taking a clear photo is very easy and you don’t need to spend a long time steadying the phone.
The price of $5.99 is a bit steep but worth it if you need to carry important documents on a daily basis. However, improvements in a few areas would make Scan and Protect worth every cent. If you open the App after the screen has been locked it doesn’t ask for your password. Considering the confidential nature of the information stored, it’s crucial that the password is required every time. Also, it would be good to have the option to e-mail directly from the App. Although you could copy a file and paste it in an e-mail. And for those who are confused by the photos on Scan and Protect Facebook page showing connectivity with iCloud, I contacted them and they have confirmed that it’s not for current release. We eagerly look forward to their future updates. The App is on sale for $4.99 for a limited time only.
