letterabcLetters ABC Lite for iOS is an app that will help young children learn the alphabet. It works by giving the child visual, written and audio hints to help them learn. The app deals with letters A-Z and each picture card has the letter in upper and lower case with a picture that begins with the letter. For example, for the letter F, there is a picture of a frog.

If the child has a problem with the letters, then the app will read the letter aloud to help with pronunciation. The app also has features such as activity pages, where the child can color the letters in, or you can print off the picture cards and trace the letter, so it will also help with writing skills.

This app is very well designed. It is basic but it needs to be that way to be successful. I think young children could get confused with difficult graphics or a luxury sound track. They have truly thought of everything, if your child has trouble writing – print off the cards, if your child has trouble saying the letter – activate the audio cue.

With the coloring in activities, it makes learning fun for children, which is a very successful addition to the app. In school, children might be repeatedly and tediously copying the letter out over and over again, whereas with this app, the activities make active learning more engaging.

The app is very easy to navigate and young children will have no trouble using the app without adult supervision. The narrator speaks very clearly and it would be difficult for the children to misunderstand what he is saying. He doesn’t rush his words and pauses between the letter and the word to give the children the chance to absorb the information.

I think this app is very good for an educational app. It is a vital addition to school work for helping your child learn, or even giving them a head start. I think this app is aimed at children between the ages of two and four.

This app is free and I like that there are is no in-app advertising. Usually with a lite app, you are constantly reminded that there is a better version that you have to pay for. This is not the case with this app, so you don’t have to worry about your children accidentally making a purchase.
