At today’s Apple educational event in NYC, Phil Schiller took on stage to demonstrate iBooks 2 which would reinvent textbooks. It would be an all new interactive textbook experience directly on the iPad that would take books to a whole new level. In a demo, Apple demonstrated a well-designed biology book which included a intro movie, cool, rich, engaging interactive experiences. Students could even see cells in 3D and overall have a better experience which would make studying engaging.

With a built in index, students would be able to quickly jump to their desired chapter without having to flip a lot of pages. Jumping to specific pages, browsing through images and even searching for content would now be dramatically easier.

Even questions and answers would be reinvented. Now for every question, students could select an answer visually and the App would let them know of the correct one in a much more visual and graphical way.

Just like iBooks 1, users would be able to take notes and highlight items. You can even get free sample books with the one-click purchase option.

iBooks 2 will be available as a free download via the App Store today. Wow.
